The Engineering Process

The engineering procedure is a sequence of steps used by engineers, developers and scientists to create a new product or solution. These products are often used in everyday life, and can solve problems faced by consumers or other users.

Students begin by defining the problem and researching it. They then identify requirements that must be met. They brainstorm ideas and look at what others have done in order to solve the problem.

After a list is created, the students choose the most promising solution and create a model. This step shows students that they have accomplished a lot and they can see their idea turn into a real solution.

Students test their prototypes to see if they perform as expected. The prototypes can be used to improve their designs.

It is likely that they will go through several prototypes before achieving a design which works and is completed. This iterative method teaches designers that they should never stop trying to improve the design.

Whether your students decide to become engineers or not, the process of engineering is something they can use throughout their lives to solve any click for more info problems. They can use the skills they have learned to complete any project, whether it is building skyscrapers or making sneakers.
