Madison Optical Center (MOC) was established in 1983 by Dr. Thomas Munns on State Street. In Early 2012 Lynne Derra, an eyewear consultant to Dr. Munns, purchased it and transformed it into the Boutique it is today.
While still maintaining our focus on the best quality of eye care, we also established a number of partnerships to provide the Madison market with unique fashion-forward eyewear and optical lenses. The practice remained on State Street until February of 2021 when we found our new “Forever Home” on West Washington.
We offer a full range of vision and eye care services including comprehensive eye exams, contact lenses, eye health management, and more!

Lynne Derra
Lynne became the owner of Madison Optical Center after joining the practice as a partner in 2012. She has over 30 years of optical experience, including 17 years in sales with Tura Eyewear, 2 years as a territory manager for an optical lab, and 10 years as an operations manager in private practice. Her focus is on making see as sharp as you look, and on training her staff to do the same.

Samantha Krakow
Following in her mom’s footsteps, Lynne, our business owner, Samantha has worked in the optical industry for 10+ years. As our team leader, she brings her outstanding organizational skills and knowledge to the practice, leading our staff to provide you with excellent customer service and care. She has a great eye for fashion eyewear! She is our go to girl.

Dr. Cally Schumal
Dr. Cally Schumal, originally from Cottage Grove, WI, has received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is dedicated to providing excellent eye care to all. She enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling, and outdoor activities like golf, hiking and scuba diving.
Dr. Cally Schumal, originally from Cottage Grove, WI, has received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is dedicated to providing excellent eye care to all. She enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling, and outdoor activities like golf, hiking and scuba diving.
Ryan Gourlie
Ryan came to MOC in 2012 with a history in retail sunglass sales in sunny Orlando, where hip sun protection for eyes is a part of the landscape. He’s got a real eye for fashion and flair, and guarantees to make shopping for frames as much fun as showing them off.

Makenzie Miller
Makenzie is our 3 generation family member here at MOC! Makenzie graduated from UW Whitewater in 2020 with a Bachelor's of Science in Geography. In her free time she enjoys hiking, thrifting, and painting. She started at MOC in June 2021 and is excited to keep growing as an optical assistant.

While we don’t necessarily provide eyecare to our furry four-legged friends, they are truly an important part of the team. Our office pups make sure our customers feel welcome and at ease, as well as adding to our vibe. But please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any allergies or aren’t comfortable around dogs for any reason and we will ensure they aren’t around for your visit.
